Close-up of a sedum, or stonecrop, mat on a green roof. The mat consists of Sedum album (red) and Sedum spurium 'Coccineum' (green). A green roof insulates the building, reduces rainwater run-off and improves appearance and biodiversity. Sedum plants are used because they are drought tolerant, shallow rooting and require little maintenance.
