Vintage newspaper portrait of George Siler (1846 - 1908) - one of the most well-known and respected boxing referees of the late 19th and early 20th century. Siler refereed more than 200 bouts during the 1890s and early 1900s, including many world title fights involving famous fighters of the era such as Bob Fitzsimmons, Jim Corbett, Jim Jeffries, Joe Gans and Battling Nelson. He was also a sports writer for the Chicago Times, Chicago Globe and Chicago Tribune. Portrait circa 1901.
