HEPATITIS, DRAWING

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. It can be either acute, chronic or viral. Hepatitis has a variety of causes: viruses, toxins, medications, alcohol abuse or bacterial infection. Viral hepatitis is the most common type, caused by the A, B or C viruses, the D, E or Epstein-Barr viruses or a cytomegalovirus. Drug- or toxin-induced hepatitis can occur following administration of paracetamol, antibiotics, tuberculosis medication or hormones. Accidental ingestion of the death-cup mushroom (Amanita phalloides) can cause complete destruction of the liver.
