Pest control. Spraying pesticides to exterminate mosquitoes during the Chikungunya epidemic on Reunion Island. The Chikungunya virus is an alphavirus, which is transmitted by mosquitoes and causes a rare form of viral fever. Symptoms include a high fever, rash and arthritic joint pain. There is no vaccine for the virus, so mosquito extermination is the principal means of fighting an epidemic. Photographed in January 2006.
