Queen Margaret of Anjou and the robber of Hexham


Illustration by Frederick Gilbert (1827-1902) from Cassell's illustrated history of England published circa 1896. Legend has it that following the Battle of Hexham, Margaret was attacked by robbers but escaped and demanded of another robber that he protect his King's son. He escorted them to his cave where they were protected until rescued by Lancastrian forces.
