Retezat national park, Romania: Logging of old growth forest.


Romania is home to the largest tracks of primary and old growth forests in the EU outside Scandinavia. However, the extremely valuable forests are disappearing at a high rate due to legal and illegal logging, even in Natura 2000 protected sites or buffer zones of national parks.
