Probably also akin to the musk-ox, this ruminant is a relative ofthe serows. It is heavily built, with stout limbs, large lateral hoofs, ashort tail, a convex profile, and a partially hairy muzzle. Thehorns, which are large, massive, and bent somewhat after thefashion of those of the gnu, curve at first outwards and somewhatdownwards, and then bend abruptly upwards about the middle oftheir length. Height at shoulder, about 3^- feet. Horns are presentin both sexes, as in the serows and gorals, those of females beingsmaller than those of males. The general colour varies from greyishbrown with a light saddle, and passing into blackish on the head, limbs,and underparts, with a continuous dark dorsal streak, to deep rufousor black.
