This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product ExoMars lander and rover on the surface of Mars, artwork. ExoMars is a key component of a mission by ESA's Aurora programme, to study the biological environment on Mars. The rover will be capable of operating autonomously and will carry an approximately 40kg exobiology payload, dubbed Pasteur. The mission is scheduled for launch in 2011, arriving at the planet's surface in June 2013.
