Woodruff (Subsistence De-partment) was bom at Burke, Vermont, April 26, enlisted in Company A, Tenth Vermont Volunteers,June 5, 1862, and served in the Army of the Potomac,with the First Brigade, Third Division, Third Corps, andFirst Brigade, Third Division, Sixth Corps. He was inthe field continuously as private, corporal, and sergeant,until severely wounded at Cold Harbor, Virginia, June 3,1864 (slightly wounded three times, June I). He wasthen commissioned second lieutenant, but not musteredon account of wounds, and subsequently discharged fordisability, wounds, August 18, 1S65. He was pensioned,but surrendered the same from September, 1866. Hewas a cadet at the U. S. Military Academy from July 1,1867, to June 12, 1871, when he was graduated and pro-moted second lieutenant, Seventh Infantry. lie served on frontier duty at Fort Shaw, Montanafrom Sept
