A Canadian National Railway heritage unit painted for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad is among six Canadian National Railway locomotives leading a freight train northbound through Spaulding Junction where the communities of Elgin and Bartlett meet. Heritage units are outfitted with special paint honoring former railroads that usually predated the railway who acquired them. The single-track mainline supports a significant volume of rail freight traffic between northwest Indiana and points north to Canada.
