The mean diameter of the young corpus luteum is 10-5 cm. in Fin whales and 12-7 cm. in Blue whales. There is some indication that in both species it increases slightly in size up to the stage when the foetus measures about i m., and then gradually becomes slightly smaller. This is shown in Fig. 128 in which the sizes of the corpora lutea are plotted according to the length of the foetus. It will be seen that in general the smallest corpora lutea * M. V.
