Effigy of a murdered abbot & a monument dated 1480 commemorating a cellarer at Dundrennan Abbey. There is a dagger in the chest of the abbot, his assassin lies mortally wounded at his feet. The abbot holds a crozier, by his head is a rose, symbol of the Cistercians. Photo taken May 1991 when monuments were in a recess in the W wall of the nave. They have since been moved back to the chapter house where they were found. Cistercian abbey founded c 1142 as a daughter-house to Rievaulx Abbey in Yorkshire.
