Itis inserted into the deltoid tubercle of the shaft of the humerus. Action.—Abducts the humerus to a right angle with the glenoidfossa of the scapula. Assists in drawing the arm forward (ventrally)and backward (dorsally). Nerve Supply.—Axillary, or circumflex nerve (C. 5, 6). i8o MYOLOGY The m. supraspinatus arises from the bulk of the supraspinousfossa and the fascia covering the muscle

Action.—Assists the deltoid in abducting the arm. Nerve Supply.—Suprascapular nerve (C. 5, 6). The m. infraspinatus arises from the bulk of the infraspinousfossa and the fascia covering it and is inserted into the middle facetof the greater tubercle of the humerus. The m. teres minor arises from the dorsal surface of the axillarymargin of the scapula (proximal two-thirds) and the intermuscularsepta and is inserted into the distal facet of the greater tubercle ofthe humerus.
