Bronze Age pottery. Trowel being used to uncover a piece of pottery. It was found during excavations at a Bronze Age settlement dating from around 1500 BC, at Poggiomarino, near present-day Naples, Italy. The settlement, consisting of artificial islands and canals, was abandoned in the 6th century BC, and it is thought the inhabitants went on to found Pompeii. The remains of the site were discovered in 2002.
