Lactoferrin molecule. Computer model showing the structure of lactoferrin binding to two iron ions (yellow) along with carbonate ions (red, grey). A number of atoms on top of the irons were removed in order to show the irons inside. Lactoferrin is found in a wide range of biological fluids such as tears, salivia and milk as part of the immune system. It has antibacterial and antiviral properties.
