Dog lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum) larva, light micrograph. This parasitic nematode worm has dogs and foxes as its primary hosts and snails and slugs as its intermediate hosts. In rare cases the dog lungworm can infect humans and travel to the brain, via the bloodstream, causing meningitis (brain inflammation). Magnification: x330 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
