Laying sand in front of the final altar for Le Grand Sacre June 2008, Villedieu-les-Poeles
Le Grand Sacre is a religious procession, involving the Knights of St. John, celebrating the development of the town of Villedieu-les-Poeles by this order. It takes place every four years, at the beginning of June. There are 10 temporary altars set up around the town where the procession stops, and prayers are said and relayed aroud the town by public address. These altars represent stories from the bible.
