Phrenology model. Computer artwork of a brain scan (pink) in the head of a phrenology model. The pseudo-science of phrenology was based on the belief that a person's intellect and personality were related to the shape of their skull and scalp. This theory was proposed by the German physician Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828). It was popular in the nineteenth century. This model shows the characteristics associated with particular areas of the skull.
