Goode, in1870-71, then returned tomake Lexington his was, in 1871, appointedclerk of the house of repre-sentatives, was appointed so-licitor-general, northern cir-cuit, by Gov. Smith in 1873,and reappointed in 1873 forfour years; was postmaster atLexington in 1877, and waselected state senator the sameyear. He was elected in 1884,by the legislature, judge ofthe superior court of the^^ northern circuit, unanimous-ly re-elected in 1888, waselected in 1890 associate justice of the supremecourt of Georgia, again unanimously, and in 1891was made by the Southwestern Baptist uni-versity of Jackson, Tenn. Justice Lumpkin comesof a family of lawyers, jurists and statesmen re-nowned in the annals of Georgia. He is the secondof his family to grace the supreme bench of hisstate.
