This scene titled Franz Hals and His Wife, today in the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam, was painted by Franz Hals in 1624.
Franz Hals (c. 1582–1666) was born in southern Netherlands—what is today Belgium. A Dutch Golden Age painter, Hals is credited as a revolutionary in the field of portraiture. He was particularly know for the way he captured light and atmosphere. Shown here is Franz Hals and His Wife in the Rijks Museum in It was painted in 1624. The idea for the painting was Lysbeth's and she put on her best gown and new cap and made him don his Town Hall suit. She gauffered his cuffs carefully, and tied round his neck his finest Van Dyck collar. The pose is realistic. They were married for 50 years. Among his works are Banquet of the Officers of the St. George Civic Guard, Catharina Hooft and her Nurse, Gipsy Girl, and Malle Babbe.
