Omega Centauri globular cluster stars, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image. There are around 10,000 stars in this image. The different colours show stars in different stages of their life cycles. Yellow-white Sun-like stars become orange as they cool and grow larger, some becoming large red giant stars. Bright and hot stars are blue. Omega Centauri is around 16,000 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Centaurus. Image data obtained on 15 July 2009 by the UVIS (ultraviolet and visible) sensor on Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) as part of the Hubble Servicing Mission 4 Early Release Observations (SM4 ERO).
