Tree felled by beaver in Briesetal nature reserve in a small valley formed by the Briese river, in Birkenwerder, Brandenburg, Germany. The Briese river is a tributary of the Havel which it joins in Birkenwerder. The river it flows through the Briesenwald, an Alder forest that is home to birds and wild life. The Briesenwald gave the river its name and beavers use the trees as a source of wood to dam the river. The river had economic importance in the past when peat was cut in the area and used as fuel to operate three water mills between Zühlsdorf and Birkenwerder-Untermühle
