Shelooked as clean as a new pin, her sides were painted apale, fresh green, and she hailed from some port in thePacific. Her flag was unfamiliar, and had a brightpatch of green in it. After Nantes came Chantenay, two and a half milesdown, with big factories and workshops ; then the twolittle ports, standing back from the river, of Basse-Indreand Indret, with gleaming white churches
