Sign for Mount Street Gardens in Mayfair, London.

Mount Street Gardens in Mayfair were formed in 1889 from the old burial ground of St George's Hanover Square. The land had been originally sold for use as the burial ground in 1723 by Sir Richard Grosvenor when the surrounding area was developed. The burial ground was closed, as were others in central London, because of health risks. Many of the park benches have been donated by American families who have enjoyed the gardens while based at the nearby American embassy.
