19th century haberdasher's shop in England (where the term means a shop selling sewing requisites and sometimes rolls of cloth or other materials , as opposed to the USA where it means a mens' clothing shop). These were generally run by an all female staff and rarely saw male customers. Historically haberdashers were initially peddlers of small items such as buttons, thread and needles. The Haberdashers' Company is one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies in London
