WWI The wartime meat ration card issued to the King and Queen of Britain at Buckingham Palace (Inset a photo of shoppers queuing for meat). In 1918, new laws introduced rationing of certain foods such as meat, sugar, flour, butter, margarine and milk . Each person were given ration cards,including King George and Queen Mary. The card had to be signed by the person to whom it was issued. The cards could only be used at certain butchers shops specified by the ration book holder (marked at the top of the card).
