Orchid flower (Rossioglossum insleayi). The lower petal (yellow, elaborate shape) is called the lip. It is a specialised structure that helps attract pollinators and guides them to the reproductive parts of the flower. This orchid is found at high altitude in Mexico. It is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
