The following list represents what has beennoticed by us as to the habitats of the Mycetozoain numerous localities ui the South of observations have ranged from the countiesof Merioneth to Norfolk, and from North Devon toKent: but the largest proportion of them are fromthe counties of Beds, Herts, and Bucks. The fewnotes that are not original are based upon speci-mens that have been kindly forwarded to us byMr. A. Lister, Mr. C. Crouch, and Mr. Geo. is hoped that the list is sufficiently varied and. Badhamia xitexs. extensive to warrant us in bringing the matterunder the notice of those wlio are interested in theMycetozoa. It will be seen that some genera have beenobserved only on wood, but these could be furthergi-ouped as to the kind of wood on whicli theylive ; as, for example, Badhamia nitens, birch andoak; Lycogala Jiarn-fuscum Ross., eini;. Criirariaaurantiaca Shrad., on Coniferae and Salix. Other species are apparently limited to straw- SCIENCE- GOSSIP. L07 lieaps, such as Badluimia avupora Racib., Plnjsarumstraminipes List., and Diclymium Troclms List. A few species seem indifferent to their environ-ment, of which we may specify Didymitini diffuswnLink., and D. difforme Duby. Sphagnum niay be credited with two species inGreat Britain. These are Badliamia lilacina Rost.,from Pilmoor, Yorks, found by Miss G-. Lister,and Flitwick, Beds; also Chondrioderma simplexSchroeter, Perthshire, by Miss G. Lister, and inMerionethshire.
