Baghdad Unknown Soldier Monument after Iran-Iraq war with crossed swords behind. Iraqi flag is in the shape of Samarra ziggurat.

Baghdad Ba'ath Iraqi flag monument part of the Unknown Soldier Monument complex built after Iran-Iraq war with crossed swords behind. Steel flag pole is also in the shape of Samarra ziggurat. Flag covered in Murano glass. Access to foreign "guests" was only permitted with Ba'ath Party minders. The Monument to the Unknown Soldier is reputedly inspired to glorify a martyr from the Iran-Iraq war. The circular complex also houses an underground museum below the artificial hill - a truncated cone of 250 m in diameter. Red granite flooring as shown and stepped platforms lead to the dome and cubic sculpture of a sheild out of shot here. The steel flagpole is entirely covered with Murano glass panels fixed on stainless steel arms and displaying the national flag colours.
