Limestone rock with asymmetrical folded calcite veins. Limestone is a sedimentary rock which is largely composed of white calcite, though impurities can make the rock appear a range of colours. Here it is black, but has several pure calcite veins running across it. The veins are folded, suggesting the rock has been subjected to various forces and stresses since it was laid down as sediment. This sample measures 250 millimetres wide.
