Discusses visits with various friends. Transcription: October. 1850. 9. Wednesday. Writing an article with intent to take it to [Henry] Fowler of Holden ?s Dollar Magazine, till Evening. [Alfred] Waud called after supper. Together to the Art Union Exhibition for an hour or so. Waud ?s Henry Hudson ? acquaintance Bellinger started for Illinois. He himself designeth to take employ as gilder on the morrow. 10. Thursday. Writing all day. Letters from [William] Barth, and from Mr [Henry] Hart. Evening, to [168] Duane Street. [Norton] Butler, Smith O ?Brien ? [Thomas] Fogarty and McMasters present. Got letters for Mr. Hart from sniffling termagaunt [Mary Holt], and then Mr. [Frank] Royal entering, departed with him. His wife and family this day arrived. Left him on Hudson and called at Mr. [Joseph] Greatbatch ?s, finding Joe [Greatbatch] there. Mary Anne [Greatbatch] ?s birthday. On returning found Waud awaiting me. 11. Friday. Finished article. To the Post Office with letters and papers. To Wall Street, to the Office of Holden ?s Dollar Magazine, to the ?ǣLife ? Office, to Beekman Street where I saw Waud and lent him $4, to [Wardle] Corbyn ?s; then back. Met old Greeley who told me [Hardin] Andrews hath not gone south. Afternoon found out Herr Kist ?s domicile, and delivered Mr. Hart ?s letter to him seeing the boy Valentine; then to [Warren] Butler and [Charles] Browns, and walked home with the latter. Evening in-doors, talk, Shakspere ?s readings and fumigation. Debate of the ?Metaphysics of Passion ? 12. Saturday. Out making calls during the morning, sans success. To Picayune Office, Era Office, Ned Buntlinean Office, Nick [Nathaniel] Orr ?s &c. Finally expended $1,75/100 with the sons of Beach for advertisement-inserting throughout the forthcoming week. Back to [177] Canal. Wrote letter to Mr Hart, read. Waud called and stayed the greater part of the evening. Repaid the $4. 13. Sunday. Strolled to Beekman Street and passed an hour or so with Waud. Afternoon read
