Orchid flower (Oncidium ampliatum). The extremely large yellow petal is a specialised structure called the lip. It attracts pollinators to the reproductive parts (centre). This orchid is found in lowland tropical areas of Central America and South America. It is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
