Europe Greece Cyclades Islands Santorini volcano Nea Kameni in the center of the caldera Nea Kameni is a small Greek island, uninhabited volcanic origin located in the Aegean Sea within the caldera of Santorini. Nea Kameni and the small neighboring island of Palea Kameni formed during the last two millennia after repeated eruptions of lava. The largest eruptions of the last 300 years took place in 1707-1712, 1866-1870, 1925-1928 and 1939-1941. The last small eruption was small in 1950.
