The world’s highest vertical ascent cable car takes just 20 minutes to climb to the 3,842m (12,605 ft) summit of the Aiguille du Midi in the Mont Blanc massif, Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, from the town of Chamonix, offering superb views over both French and Italian Alps. From the summit, another cable car links France and Italy, travelling above the Mont Blanc Tunnel and the frontier to the 3,452m (11,358 ft) peak of Pointe or Punte Helbronner.

Aiguille du Midi, Mont Blanc massif, Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France: the 3,842m (12,605 ft) summit of the Aiguille du Midi is served by the world’s highest vertical ascent cable car, which climbs to the summit in 20 minutes from Chamonix-Mont-Blanc and offers superb views over the French and Italian Alps. From the Aiguille du Midi summit, the Vallée Blanche or Funivia dei Ghiacciai cable car connects France to Italy, travelling some 5 km ( mi) above the Mont Blanc road tunnel and the international frontier to reach the 3,452m (11,358 ft) peak of Pointe or Punte Helbronner. That mountain is also the start of a ski run via the Glacier du Géant and the Mer de Glace to Montenvers and Chamonix.
