The valve gearadopted is of the Walschaert type and the distribution ofsteam to the h. p. and 1. p. cylinders can be independentlycontrolled by an ingenious arrangement of the reversinggear. For starting a valve is provided which permitsthe driver to admit boiler steam through a reducing valveto the 1. p. cylinders, whilst valves arranged for divert-ing the escaping steam from the h. p. cylinders directto the blast pipe are brought into operation by a three- February, 1904.
