Foresters all agree that where there is agrowth of other varieties for protection such asaspen, pin cherry and the like, the pine growth ismuch more sturdy. This planting was made inApril, 1902, for experiment only. The young treeswere two years old when set out, at a distance offour feet. A photograph taken in 1904, two yearsafter planting, shows them less than six inches inheight.
