P. pilosum is a distinct species, growing upwards of 2ft. in height. It has woolly foliage, and bears numerous flowers of a peculiar brick-red colour. Each petal has a white mark at the base. Its time of flowering is from May to Pentstemon barbatus (syn. Chelone barbatd) is a showy plant, bearing spikes of attractive scarlet flowers. It grows upwards of 3ft. high, and flowers from June to Sep- tember, or even later. It is an excellent plant for the mixed border or for forming beds .in the flower-garden. Easily increased by seeds or by cuttings. Numerous florists' varieties of Pentste- mons are now grown in gardens.
