Ponte della Constituzione Santiago Calatrava's fourth bridge over the Grand Canal Cannaregio Venice Veneto Italy

The Ponte della Costituzione - also known as the Ponte di Calatrava, after its architect, Santiago Calatrava - is the fourth footbridge over the Grand Canal in Venice (the others are the nearby Ponte degli Scalzi, the Rialto bridge and the Accademia bridge). It links the bus station at Piazzale Roma (on the south side) with Fondamenta Santa Lucia (on the north side) a street which leads to Venezia Santa Lucia railway station. The bridge was opened in 2008. It has attracted controversy over its design (seen by some as out of place and not blending in with the historic surroundings), the initial lack of disabled access, and the more pressing need for bridges elsewhere in the city.
