Mani region, Peloponnese, Greece. Maniat "towerhouses" in Vatheia village, under an impressive cloudy sky, Lakonian Mani.

Vatheia is an archetypal village of Mani and probably the most "famous" among the dozens Maniat villages. A fortified settlement, full of beautiful and imposing "towerhouses", typical of the region. Unfortunately the village is almost completely abandoned nowadays, mostly because of a series of lethal vendettas. Many of the towers where renovated in the 80's by the National Organization of Tourism and functioned as guesthouses for some time.
