Adult Male.—Head and the upper part of the neck black, lower neck, breast and most of the upper surface rich chestnut; wings except the least coverts, centre of the lower back and tail (which is very long) very dark brown, centre of the lower breast and abdomen shading from chestnut to silvery-grey slightly mottled with black, the feathers having dark bases; under wing- coverts white with dark grey centres, axillaries pure white. Iris dark hazel; bill blue black ; feet dark leaden blue. Length 18-5 ; wing 7*0 ; tail 3-25 ; culmen 1-5 ; tarsus 1-25. The female has the upper parts, including the crown and nape brown, minutely freckled with pale fulvous and grey, the primaries.
