Morgan[nvc Rice), and from that period to tlie present he has de-voted his time, his talents, and his energies to the moral,intellectual, and physical development of that locality. He was elected amember of the village Board of Trustees in 1893 and a Trus-tee of the school in 1891, and after serving three years wasre-elected in 1891. Many improvements were made duringthis period, and Dr. Mandeville has endeared himself to thepeople by his straightforward, manly course, and his effortsto promote the best interests of the whole community, with-out fear or favor. Like liis father, he has been an earnestadvocate of, as well as practical worker in, the cause of edu-cation, and believed in giving the poor as well as the richthe best educational advantages by increasing the facilitiesof the free school system. He has held various positions inconnection with the schools of South Orange, and when theBoard of Education for the township was established in1891 he was elected
