The sedimentary strata of the Wealden Beds, revealed in the Lower Cretaceous cliffs at Worbarrow Bay on the Jurassic Coast. Dorset, England, UK.

The colourful patterns and textures of fluvial clays, silts, lignite beds, gravel and sandstones which make up the Wealden Beds are revealed in these Lower Cretaceous cliffs at Worbarrow bay. The sedimentary layers were deposited by a prehistoric river. This stretch of the Purbeck coast in Dorset is part of what is known as “The Jurassic Coast”, so named because of the extraordinary wealth and variety of it’s geology. There are 95 miles of remarkable coastline which have been designated, a UNESCO natural world heritage site. The first in England.
