Snout 3l^ to 4 in head from snout tip; eye 314 to 4, subequal with snout, V/^ to 1% in interorbital; maxillary largely concealed, reaches eye, length 2% to ZYs in head from snout tip; lower jaw very slightly protruded in front; interorbital 2% to 2% in head, broadly convex; suborbitals broad, cover most all of cheek. Pharyngeal teeth 2, 3, 5-5, 3, 2, with slight terminal hooks and grinding surfaces. Scales 29 in lateral line to caudal base and 2 more on latter; 5 above, 1 below, 11 or 12 predorsal, 12 around caudal peduncle. Scales with 17 or 18 apical and 15 or 16 basal radiating striae; cir- culi fine and more or less complete. D. Ill, 7, I, first branched ray ly^o to IV5 in total head length; A. m, 5, I, first branched ray 1% to li/^; least depth of caudal peduncle 2% to 21/5; pectoral 1% to I14 J ventral 1% to 1%; caudal 31/10 to Sy^ in rest of body, well forked, lobes pointed. Back brownish, lower surfaces paler. Sides and head laterally with silvery white reflections. Underlaid leaden gray axial or verte- bral line, narrow and at caudal base ends in obscure dull brown spot. Blackish bar along base of anal, narrowing behind.
