As it is not necessary to remove the superheater tubes atthe end of the three-year period in order to comply with thelaw, if the boiler can be cleaned and inspected, it is recom-mended by many railroads that the superheater flues bewelded at the fire-box end. The tubes can be (leaned on theoutside or water side while in the boiler by the use of scrap-ing rods and liars, pneumatic flue cleaners, and sometimes byheating the flues.
