HYPERPARATHYROIDISM, X-RAY
Hyperparathyroidism is a condition due to a dysfunction of one of the parathyroid glands, which causes an overproduction of parathormone, which in turn creates a hypercalcemic state. Hyperparathyroidism is common in women over 50. It is said to be primary when due to a parathyroid adenoma, and secondary when caused by severe kidney failure. Shown here, primary hyperparathyroidism with diffuse demineralization of the upper extremity of the tibia and the lower extremity of the femur.
