Savai'i and Upolu, Samoa, photographed from the International Space Station as it passed over the South Pacific Ocean. Savai'i, the westernmost Samoan Island, is 80 km (50 mi) long; Upolu is nearly as long (74 km/46 mi). The dark green centres of the islands reflect the denser tropical forests and higher elevations in comparison to the lower, light-green coastal regions around the edges. Apolima Strait separates the 2 islands. A unique, optimised and digitally enhanced version of an NASA image / credit NASA
