ARABIAN GULF (Sep. 4, 2015) Marines from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) return to Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47) aboard an amphibious assault vehicle (AAV) after completing two weeks of sustainment training in Kuwait. Rushmore is part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the 5th Fleet area of operations.
