View SW of Kingston Russell Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age stone circle, Dorset: 18 fallen stones once formed an upstanding 'flattened circle' (c x ) or an oval some 24m (80ft) across. Stones were graded in height up to the tallest at the N, same as nearby circle the Nine Stones, Winterbourne Abbas. Sarsen & conglomerate slabs for chambered tombs & stone rings in the area were mainly sourced from the Valley of Stones, at the foot of Crow Hill, within four miles of most of the sites. This circle is situated in farmland on a high ridge with views S to Abbotsbury & the sea. The surrounding crop is maize grown for stockfeed.
