Pilley Packing & Hoe Brash N^.Co. 612 S. Thiitl St., ST. LOUIS, NO. Mention The RcTlew when yon write. that the hot water will run into the pump by gravity, as no pump will lift hot water. The plant in which I am engineer is in a range of greenhouses containing 92,000 square feet of glass. We carry forty pounds on the boiler and ten pounds on the heating system, by means of a reducing valve. Before we put in the reducing valve, pump, receiver and steam traps, the conden- sation was returned by gravity and the temperature of the return water was from 120 to 180 degrees; now the con- densation comes back to the pump with a temperature of 200 to 210 degrees, which means a big saving in coal H. Armstrong. TWO REASONS FOR TROUBLE. We have two greenhouses, each 16x60 and ten feet to the ridge, with twenty inches of side glass and concrete walls, three feet high. Each house-is piped as follows: One 3-inch main, rising from the boiler about five feet, then pitching down to the farther end of the greenhouse and there dropping into fifteen 1^4-inch returns under the benches, and one 1%-inch return along the side glass. The expansion tank is connected to both 3-inch mains at the highest point in the boiler shed. The boiler is cast-iron, a good make and rated at 1,250 feet of radiation. It has a grate 20x30 inches. The boiler room floor is about one foot lower than the paths of the greenhouses. We are not getting satisfactory results and we have to keep the boiler going at full force to get 60 degrees in moderately cold weather. In zero weather we can- not get a higher temperature than 40 degrees. We shall be pleased to get some advice through your columns. We ar
