A farmer tends to his bean crop in Nanighi. The rains in 2016 rains were poor, leaving million Kenyans in need of food aid, according to the government. This year will bring little relief, according to the World Food Programme. The March to May rainy season started late in Kenya, and forecasts show total rainfall over many parts of the country will likely be below normal. Many counties, including Garissa, will face a food security crisis, leaving millions at risk of malnutrition and starvation.
